Restoration Philosophy

The primary goal behind Michael's restoration work is to respect and preserve the integrity of the original antique. He recommends restoring only the damaged or lost areas of any piece of furniture, and reviving other areas to maintain a consistent look throughout the piece. Removal of the original finish is only advised if it is severely compromised, and only with consent from the client. It is never his intention to make a piece look "new". A completed restoration will look like a well kept heirloom. He uses only materials and techniques appropriate to each specific piece. Repairs are virtually seamless. Veneer and solid woods are carefully matched for grain patterns and color. Any missing components are reproduced in the same species of wood as the original. Every piece receives the same care and attention derived from 36 years of experience as a professional furniture maker and restorer.
